“We have elected a fascist to parliament,” Slovakia’s foreign minister Miroslav Lajcak told the media today.

For the first time in the country’s history, a neo-Nazi party, the People’s Party-Our Slovakia, received 8 percent of the vote in Saturday’s national elections.

The party will have 14 seats on 150-member Slovakian National Council.

The leading party, Prime Minister Robert Fico’s Smer-Social Democrat Party, also ran on an anti-immigrant platform, and received 49 seats.

Because Fico’s government received only 28 percent of the vote this time around, it will have to form a coalition with the other parties.
